On Tuesday, it was reported that a woman from the village of Panipat, north of Delhi was rescued after being locked in a toilet for a year and a half…

She was allegedly locked in the tiny space by her husband. The toilet was reported to be just 1 square metre in floor space.

The mother of three was rescued after locals from the village alerted a rescue organisation. Rescuers told ANI that the woman could barely walk when they found her. She was allegedly often deprived of food and water by her husband.

According to reports, the husband alleged that his wife was suffering from a mental health condition. But rescuers said their assessment of the woman did not confirm this.

The husband has been arrested.
