Before K-Pop group BTS staked their claim as one of the global music industry’s most popular boy bands, there was another group of male singers who dominated the charts, had female fans swooning (and fainting) and sold out concerts around the world
…the Backstreet Boys!
The popular 90s boy band experienced mega-success in their early days and were the object of many teenage girl’s affection – they also featured on their walls as posters!
But a lot has changed since then and like many singers and groups, have faded into obscurity.
Of course they attempted to make a comeback a few years back, but sadly things were never the same for the boys….er men.
Take a look at what members of the Backstreet Boys are up to today…
Perhaps the most controversial of the bunch, Nick – older brother of troubled singer Aaron Carter – has had his fair share of ups and downs including a history of substance abuse and drug rehabilitation – he claims he started drinking at 2 years old!
He’s also been accused of having a toxic relationship with his family members – including Aaron – and has even appeared on the Dr Phil show to seek help.
In 2019, Nick was also accused of raping fellow singer and reported friend Melissa Schulman 15 years earlier, a claim he vehemently denies.
These days Nick is a husband and father of two young children.
Alexander James aka ‘AJ’ also dabbled in drug and alcohol abuse and despite checking into rehabilitation centres on numerous occasions, he relapsed just as many times.
AJ attempted to pursue a career in film & TV and even a solo music career – all of which proved dismal.
Today, the former star – who is a proud husband and ‘girl dad’ – is all about living and promoting a healthy lifestyle and successfully hosts several podcasts on everything from music to fatherhood!

Looking through old pictures with the little ones and getting emotional thinking about what today is. I look at my girls and I see how incredibly blessed I am. I’m holding them even tighter today, thinking of the parents that didn’t get to return home to their own children on that fateful day 19 years ago. My thoughts are with all of those that we lost and their families. I want to say Thank You to all front line workers who sacrifice so much on a daily basis to keep us safe. I am sending love out to you all today and every day. #NeverForget
The dark horse of the group, Kevin has kept a relatively low profile since the group’s hey-days.
However, he has found a bit of success as a male model – working for the likes of Versace, Vogue and Tag Heuer.
Kevin was also the first member of the group to settle down and become a family man – he’s been married to his childhood sweetheart Kristin Kay Willits since 2000!

The red-haired singer of the group swopped mainstream pop music for Christian pop music, of which he found relative success.
Brian is also big on charity work, after publicly revealing he suffers from a congenital heart condition, the star established the Brian Littrell Healthy Heart Club, which provides support to children who live with heart problems.
Howie has managed to forge a successful career in real estate through his company Sweet D, which has built hotels and holiday destinations throughout America.
Earlier this year, the pint-sized star also starred in a theater musical loosely based on his life called ‘Howie D: Back in the Day’.
The boy band singer turned businessman is married with two children.
