Oscar Pistorius is desperately seeking forgiveness from the family of his late girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, according to a report in the UK publication Sun On Sunday

The paper reported that Oscar’s family friend (and Pretoria Boys High headmaster), Bill Schroder visited the convicted murderer a number of times in jail. According to Bill, Oscar desires forgiveness even more than his own freedom.

Oscar was jailed for murdering Reeva on Valentine’s Day in 2013 and is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence in a Pretoria jail.

“He is more concerned about forgiveness than actually getting out on parole. In fact, he has real fear about getting parole as he knows there’ll be a backlash,” Bill told the paper.

This may be due to the backlash the Paralympian received in November 2018. Oscar was granted compassionate leave from jail to attend his 101-year-old grandfather’s memorial.

He was escorted by police officers to the service, and was back in prison a few hours after his release. However, Twitter users said that the release “smacked of rich privilege.”

June Steenkamp has “no interest” in Pistorius

In April 2018, the Constitutional Court dismissed Oscar’s application for leave to appeal his 13-year prison sentence. At the time, Reeva Steenkamp’s mother, June, told The Citizen, that she is focusing on the Reeva Steenkamp Foundation which her family set up to help abused women.

“I am not interested in Oscar Pistorius, I am finished with that! It’s up to the justice system now – I have no interest whatsoever in him.

“He is not important to me anymore. It has been five years and I have had enough now,” she told the publication.
