Early on Friday morning, US president Donald Trump tweeted that he and his wife, first lady, Melania Trump had tested positive for the Coronavirus…

The US president is 74-years-old, and falls into a high risk category for the virus which has infected over seven million Americans, and killed over 208 000 people in the country.

Many are saying that Trump’s diagnosis could put a spanner in the works for his re-election campaign.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” tweeted Trump early on Friday morning.

According to a report by CNN, “The diagnosis amounts to the most serious known health threat to a sitting American president in decades.”

Trump’s doctor, Sean Conley, seems confident that the Covid-19 virus will not have any effect on the President’s ability to carry out his duties. “Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments,” he said in a statement.

President’s physician “will maintain a vigilant watch”

Dr Conley, insisted that “The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.”

Conley was the doctor who allowed Trump to take the controversial malaria drug hydroxychloroquine – which has not been proven to treat or prevent Covid-19. The FDA cautioned against use of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine for COVID-19 “outside of the hospital setting or a clinical trial due to risk of heart rhythm problems.”

I release the following information with the permission of President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.

This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.

The White House medical team and I will maintain a vigilant watch, and I appreciate the support provided by some of our country’s greatest medical professionals and institutions. Rest assured I expect the President to continue carrying out his duties without disruption while recovering, and I will keep you updated on any future developments.

This is a developing story…
