Prince Harry has come under fire after he appealed to Americans to cast their votes in the upcoming presidential elections
Appearing alongside his wife Duchess Meghan in a television broadcast, Harry urged US citizens to not only participate in the elections on 3 November, but to “reject” current issues threatening the country.
The red-haired royal can be heard saying: “As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.”
Harry also called for Americans to “have compassion” for their fellow countrymen. He continued: “When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realise it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourself in someone else’s shoes.
“Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It’s time to not only reflect, but act.”
Harry added that he would not be voting as he was not a US citizen. Meghan, however, would be.
She said during the clip: “When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter. Because you do. And you deserve to be heard.”
But his political stance – which is strictly prohibited by members of the Royal Family – has been criticised by the public and royal correspondents as a ‘swipe at Donald Trump’
Despite this, the couple’s spokesperson claims the couples comments “did not refer to any specific political party or candidate” but were instead “a call for decency”.
UK media personality Piers Morgan weighed in, tweeting: “Prince Harry poking his woke nose into the US election and effectively telling Americans to vote against President Trump is completely unacceptable behaviour for a member of the royal family.”

A Buckingham palace spokesperson also responded to the backlash, claiming Harry’s comments were essentially his own personal views.
They said in a statement: “The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family and any comments he makes are made in a personal capacity.’
Meanwhile Meghan herself has faced criticism – this time from President Trump – over her election comments
During a White House press briefing, Trump told media: “I’m not a fan of hers and I would say this, and she probably has heard that – I wish a lot of luck to Harry because he’s going to need it”.
