On Wednesday, President Cyril Ramaphosa concluded his address by asking South Africans to take up the Jerusalema dance challenge to celebrate Heritage Day. On Thursday, Master KG reminded South Africans of yet another reason to do the #JerusalemaChallenge – a chance to win R20 000.

Social media was abuzz when the president put out the #JerusalemaChallenge. The challenge gained popularity in recent months as people from across the globe shared videos of themselves dancing to the song Jerusalema by Master KG, real name Kgaogelo Moagi, and vocalist Nomcebo Zikode.

Ramaphosa said: “There can be no better way to celebrate our South Africanness than joining the global phenomenon that is spreading across the world and that is the Jerusalema dance challenge, the Jerusalema song that I love so much.”

Master KG supports this call. He tweeted that he was “really humbled by the mention” from the president.

Master KG is the face of an ongoing National Lottery competition which promotes small businesses and side hustles using his hit song.

He added: “Here’s what’s even more amazing, if you do it with a @sa_lottery ticket in your hand, you could win R20 000.”

That seemed to motivate even more people to put on their dancing shoes.
