According to a report from the Benoni Flying Squad, a young girl and her dad caught more than they bargained for on a fishing trip on Wednesday this week…
The 11-year-old girl and her father were out fishing at the Homestead Dam at around 3pm when the girl’s line hooked a catch. As they reeled it in, they were shocked to find that what they had caught was not a fish, but a cloth bag with an object inside.
“Upon opening the bag, the father discovered a firearm whereupon he immediately made sure the weapon was secured and called authorities,” said Warrant Officer Grant Giblin from the Benoni Flying Squad.
“Upon arrival, members found it to be a CZ 7.65mm pistol with the numbers filed off. The forensic unit was dispatched to investigate further into the matter.”
“We applaud the father and daughter team for being outstanding citizens and doing the right thing by handing the firearm in,” said Giblin.
