If you’re a fan of The Crown on Netflix, you’ll be excited to know that the royal series is set to feature the role of Princess Diana in the next season
Season 4 will be released on 15 November 2020 and will star Emma Corrin as the young bride of Prince Charles, following her life as she weds into the Royal Family and faces life in the spotlight.
The series will also cover Diana’s private battle with bulimia, which has rumoured to be a sore point for the loved ones she left behind, including sons William and Harry.
According to royal insiders, Diana developed the eating disorder during her engagement to the royal heir and throughout their rocky marriage, which culminated in a divorce in 1996.
Harry’s deal with Netflix is also a bone of contention for the royals, who have distanced themselves from both the streaming service and the popular series.
However a spokesperson for The Crown has insisted that the topic will be handled “sensitively” and that writers had worked closely with experts to ‘ensure their portrayal of Princess Diana’s bulimia was both accurate to the disorder and sensitively handled’
Beat, a support network which works with victims of bulimia, told UK publication Metro: “We were consulted by Netflix and Left Bank Pictures during the production of The Crown Season 4.
“We were not involved on set, but advised on how to portray eating disorders in a sensitive and non-glamourising way, including signposting to appropriate sources of help and providing trigger warnings where needed.”
