Action SA president Herman Mashaba may be tough on corruption, and a force to be reckoned with in business, but at home with his wife, Connie, he’s like a young man in love…
The pair have been married for nearly four decades and have two children; 23-year-old son, Rhulani, and 25-year-old daughter, Khensani.
Mashaba says his 38-year marriage has been the pillar of his success both as a businessman and politician. The couple married when they were 22 and 20-years old respectively.
“Without the support of my wife I don’t think I would have achieved even 10 per cent of what I’ve achieved. I have really been so blessed by Connie’s presence in my life.”
He says their compatibility is the glue that binds them.
“We’re both golfers. We both love playing tennis. We all like international and domestic travel so for us, going on holiday has always been part and parcel of our lives.”
Despite their busy schedules, the family hardly ever misses dinner at home, and Connie’s cooking has a lot to do with it.
Mashaba smiles: “Connie is honestly the best cook in this world.”
He, on the other hand, is not so comfortable with kitchen duty.
“The only thing I can cook is pap. I can cook meat but the problem with me is that afterwards if you ask me what I put in there, I wouldn’t know because what I do is just put in everything.”
Mashaba says even with its many challenges, the lockdown has seen the family spend more time together which he greatly appreciated ahead of the launch of his party, Action SA.
