Serena Williams is out of the US Open. On Thursday, Victoria Azarenka came from behind in the semi-final match and shattered Williams’ hopes to compete in the final.

Azarenka will face Naomi Osaka in the final.

Williams won her 23rd singles tennis major title in 2017 and was desperate to make it 24 in this tournament.

Sport24 reports that Azarenka’s career was interrupted by injuries and a legal battle over the custody of her son.

Azarenka also hinted at not handling her success very well.

“I think when you’re coming up from kind of nothing, then you become a number one player in the world, sometimes you can start to think you’re invincible and that you’re better than everybody, and it’s not true,” she said.

The last time Azarenka made it to a Grand Slam final was back in 2013 in the US Open. She lost to Williams.

“I’ve been there before. Today was gonna be different,” Azarenka said after Thurday’s match.

Fans of Williams expressed their disappointment on social media while Azarenka supporters look forward to the final match against Osaka.
