The South African Police Service has confirmed that two people have been arrested in connection with the Mtwalume murders in KwaZulu Natal…

The bodies of five woman have been found dumped in the area this year. The murders led to community speculation that there may be a serial killer on the loose. The community members and leaders have been demanding more action from police in the area, and have been putting pressure on crime prevention authorities to track down the person or persons behind the murders.

A local sugar cane farmer, on whose property three of the bodies were found, offered a R20,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the culprit.

Police have been combing the area for clues since the fifth woman’s body was discovered on Wednesday, 12 August.

The police have now confirmed that two suspects have been arrested, but have not released any further information.
