Cici Twala is taking her power back after going very public with her experiences as a domestic violence survivor

But to do this, she had to find her voice first.

The singer spoke out about being a victim of physical, emotional and even financial abuse in a high-profile relationship which rocked the country and saw her face intense scrutiny and endure a criminal court case.

But she’s since overcome all that and has found her own happiness through self-love and acceptance.

Cici chatted to All4Women about moving forward with her life and how she hopes her story inspires others…

What made you decide to speak out about enduring domestic violence?

I was fuelled by the fact that I realised that if I silenced myself I would be like the many women that wanted to speak out.

This generation of women need to shout so that a hundred years from now another sister will not have to dry their tears wondering where in history they lost their voice .

What was the response like from the public after sharing your story?

I receive positive feed back from my supporters every single day. They talk about how my speaking out helped them find their own voice. They found the  strength to remove themselves from toxic situations.
So it is true when they say when you stand up for yourself you unknowingly stand up for other women.

Your IG is filled with inspirational quotes – what motivates you to stay positive and inspire others?

I literally wake up everyday and choose happiness. I choose the beautiful parts of my life and embrace it.

#womansmonth The woman who does not require validation from anyone is the most feared

What is your advice to women who find themselves in unhealthy and abusive relationships?

Self love is the most intimate kind of love you will ever find. When you know that kind of love and you’ve given it to yourself you will find no need to stay with people that don’t love you the way you deserve to be loved.

Can you tell us what you’re working on in 2020?

I’m currently working on my album and I’m so so excited to share the next chapter of my life through my music with my fans.

What is your Women’s Month message?

They must always remember that a strong woman is a woman who is determined to do what others determined not to be done and finding your voice is one of those things. It is the first step to taking your power back.
