The iconic little black dress has been the go-to fashion piece for many centuries, and will clearly continue to be for many more to come

This magnificent creation, also known as the LBD, entered the fashion scene in 1926 when it was introduced by Coco Chanel.

It was made famous by Audrey Hepburn when she wore a design by Givenchy on the film Breakfast at Tiffany’s in 1961.

It led to the liberation of women in those times as they became free from traditional, restrictive clothing.

One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress.

– Karl Lagerfeld

The phrase ‘Black is Beautiful’ echoed the message behind the inception of the LBD. Black was initially considered a sombre colour mostly worn at funerals or when in mourning.

Karl Lagerfeld gave the dress a new lease on life when he created an evolved version of the masterpiece in the 1980s.

A little black dress is something to rely on. To fill you with confidence and ease. To have an attitude that is pure and effortless, yet sexy and classy.

– Stella McCartney

Its popularity is mainly due to its elegance as well as versatility. The little black dress continues to be modernised and liberate women in all walks of life.

Princess Diana was a true style icon. She wore a black off-the-shoulder dress, dubbed the ‘revenge dress’ at a Vanity Fair party in 1994 after Prince Charles confessed that he had an affair. The dress was designed by Christina Stambolian.
