The melody of Auld Lang Syne rings out as a 79-year-old Beirut grandmother sits at her piano…
She’s surrounded by glass and debris in her apartment – the result of the catastrophic Beirut blast which killed 135 people, injured 5,000 and left around 250,000 people homeless when it ripped through the city’s port this week.
The video (BELOW) was filmed by Beirut resident Hoda Melki and has since gone viral.
One of the repeated lines of Auld Lang Syne says “We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet”… let’s hope the world shares its kindness with the people of Beirut.
