Actress-turned-businesswoman Sonia Mbele has spoken out about the drama surrounding Norma Gigaba, who was arrested last week on charges of malicious damage to property and crimen injuria

Norma, the wife of former Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba, was accused of keying a luxury vehicle belonging to him in a video which went viral last month.

Appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Norma made reference to accusations of ‘illegal tenders’ and ‘infidelity’ on Malusi’s part in her charge sheets. Her case has been postponed until next month when her legal team will approach the High Court to challenge her arrest.

Sonia – who split from her own husband Leslie Sedibe in a highly publicised divorce many years ago – posted a picture of Norma on her Instagram page, claiming she ‘understands’ the IT specialist’s predicament.

She captioned the since-deleted image: “It may not make sense to some…but it makes sense to us…when I say “us” I’m talking to and about women who have been through the most! Women who have had to appear sane to those who’ve never been tested nor tried!”

However, Sonia insisted she did not condone Norma’s behaviour

“Listen I’m not condoning anyone, anything or any behavior. But I know I had to stand on my own when all I needed and wanted was for someone to “see me”! Not only my struggles or my faults, but also my pain”, she added.

Sonia added the hashtags #nojudgement and #womansmonth at the end of her post.

Sonia has been very vocal about her own private life struggles.

Following the split, the star admitted to suffering with panic attacks, anxiety breakdowns and even claimed to have ‘Googled methods of suicide’.
