Race, religion and politics are usually topics celebrities steer clear of in the hopes of not offending their fanbase

But SA rapper and media personality Boity threw caution to the wind and did just that, with her tweets on the Bible blowing up on social media, followed by an angry backlash from fans.

Boity shared her (controversial) views of the Bible with her followers claiming it was ‘patriarchal’.

The reality TV star, who is also a practising sangoma, responded to a tweep who asked the question: “What ruined religion for you?”

Boity responded: “Lack of female voices and representation especially in the Bible. Also, the journey didn’t fill up the void in my soul the way I was brought up to believe it would”.

She followed up her shock statement with more telling tweets: “The Bible is the epitome of patriarchy. Thoroughly” and “You telling me that book was a record of years of people’s Holy encounters and they barely got 10 nyana WOMEN to talk about their moments with Jesus? Gurl, bye.”

Boity even clapped back at a tweep who took offence to the star’s “narrow feminism”.

“In that case voetsek”, an annoyed Boity quipped.

Here’s how tweeps reacted to Boity’s views.

On the other hand, a few of her fans agreed with her sentiments.
