According to Netwerk24, the two were shot by Pieter van der Westhuizen. The former policeman is a congregant and brother of the late Springbok rugby player Joost van der Westhuizen. This information was also shared by SAFM News on Sunday evening.

The radio station tweeted the following information: “Man who shot and killed 2 armed robbers at Querencia Ministeries Church in Centurion, south of Pretoria is brother of former Springbok captain, late Joost van der Westhuizen. Pastor Kobus Erasmus says God used Pieter Van der Westhuizen as instrument to protect entire congregation.”

According to police, three individuals entered the church in Wierda Park and robbed the churchgoers of their personal belongings.

One of the congregants then allegedly opened fire, killing two of them inside the church, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters told News24.

The third managed to escape in a getaway car.

“The pastor sustained minor injuries and was treated on site. No other injuries were reported,” Peters said.

One firearm has been recovered.
