On Thursday morning, broadcaster, Simon Gear shared a worrying photo of an empty chocolate shelf in a local store…

The photograph, taken at the Spar in Broadacres, Johannesburg had us questioning whether we’d be forced to say goodbye to more of our favourite snacks.

Last week, Nestlé confirmed that it was cutting Chocolate Log from the shelves as well as Bar One Peanut and Milky Bar Peanut.

All4Women reached out to Cadbury manufacturers, Mondolez South Africa to find out exactly what was going on.

Don’t panic

The good news is that Navisha Bechan-Sewkuran, Manager Corporate & Government Affairs at Mondolez for South, Central & East Africa, assured us that the empty shelve are not due to brands being discontinued.

“There’s been a high demand for snacks and treats over the past few months,” says Bechan-Sewkuran.

“Be assured, our manufacturing facility in Port Elizabeth has been working really hard to bring our consumers their favourite treats. Our sales team is also working equally as hard to keep the shelves stocked due to the increased demand we have been experiencing over the past few months.”

“We experienced some low stock levels due to raw material not delivered during the Covid-19 National Lockdown, but these raw ingredient challenges have now been overcome.”
