Dan and Mandy Sheldon from Chesterfield, Derbyshire in the UK, have won a battle to name their son Lucifer…
According to the parents, they had an uphill battle at the office they went to register their four-month-old son’s name. They said they were encouraged to think of a different name as he would “never succeed in life” if they went ahead with “Lucifer.”
The parents told The Daily Mail that they are not religious people, and they had chosen the name as it means “light bringer” and “morning” in Greek.
The woman at the registration office finally agreed to allow them to register the name.
According to a report by Huffpost.com, German officials denied parents the right to name their child Lucifer in 2017. However, the name is gaining acceptance in the US where, according to the report, 26 newborn baby boys were named Lucifer in 2018.
This increase in popularity may have been influenced by the popular TV series “Lucifer” which is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television. The series first aired in 2016, and is now in its fifth season.
