The country recorded 572 additional fatalities – the highest so far in a 24-hour period. The total deaths stands at 5 940. Mkhize said the total recoveries is now at 229 175.
Worldwide, there are over 15 million confirmed cases, with a total of 620 000 deaths.
South Africa is 5th in terms of the highest number of infections worldwide.
