We’re still in the swing of winter and if you think we’ve overlooked the hottest trends for the coldest months, you’re mistaken!

Winter wardrobe must-haves

The must-have item for winter 2020 is a pair of stylish ankle boots. Of course you can never go wrong with a pair of brogues for a slightly more sophisticated look, a chic staple that can lift a casual outfit such as jeans and a tee, and look equally appropriate with a pair of tailored trousers.

Another winter must-have is a statement coat. Our classic Stella trench is made locally and is an absolute beauty and a timeless classic.

Stylish & trendy shoes to rock during winter

Ideally you need two pairs, one classic in tan, brown or black, and one pair of animal print flats. HOC stocks classic pumps in animal prints every season, as this design has proven to be an all-time favourite.

Ankle boots are another essential item for winter. Our timeless ‘Minki’ snake print boot looks fabulous and has been a top seller this season, as everyone loves the range of colours and the prints that go with almost every outfit.

Lastly, you can never go wrong with a pair of loafers, a top wardrobe staple. HOC has the perfect ones in animal print and luxurious velvet.

Mixing high-quality items with on-trend pieces

It’s all about having imagination and being a bit brave with your fashion choices! The combinations are infinite.

My suggestion would be to spend less on fashionable items that you can swop around easily, while building a stock of quality items that become the foundation for different outfits for more than one season.

For example, purchase a ‘trendy’ t-shirt or blouse and pair it with the HOC Paula ankle boots, or Chaela brogues to put across your individual look.

Less is also more

Being aware of the effects of fast fashion manufacturing on pollution and climate change, the impact on our planet of over-production and waste, and the need to take a more sustainable approach, I advocate for becoming more conscious about buying less and buying better, substituting quality for quantity, appreciating individuality above trendiness.

This is actually the most cost effective way of dressing as you have these pieces for years instead of just one season!

The hottest trends for winter

Green, pink, blue and tangerine are trending and help to dispel the winter blues.

HOC is offering the Paula ankle boot and the Taku velvet loafer in a rich forest green, the velvet loafers Sinead and Robyn come in radiant blue and the Friederike loafer in tangerine.

The hottest accessories

Accessorising your winter look can be so much fun. Choose to stack two sets of chunky chain necklaces under a white shirt or over a cream cable knit jersey or choose to wear only one over a dark top for impact.

Experiment with brass rings and bracelets which is a timeless, yet trendy vibe. You could try out our Peter ring on one hand and the Iona single or stacked, on the other. Add one or two oval bracelets to finish of the look.
