Former Miss SA Jo-Ann Strauss has opened up about having the debilitating pregnancy symptom, hyperemesis gravidarum, also experienced by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate

The local beauty queen turned businesswoman made the admission on social media, claiming that she suffered from extreme nausea, vomiting and fatigue with her previous pregnancies, and is now experiencing it yet again whilst expecting.

Jo-Ann, who announced her baby news on Mother’s Day, wrote, “I experience extreme ‘morning sickness’ and fatigue throughout my pregnancies. It’s called hyperemesis gravidarum and I usually would go into hospital every few weeks or days to be rehydrated and get extra vitamins.

“Not many people experience the condition (fortunately) so when people suggest I just chew on some ginger, I smile politely and say that I’ve consumed my body weight in ginger and still vomit… at least three times a day”.

Jo-Ann added that she was avidly using a ‘ceramic necklace’ – thought to aid her morning (or all day) sickness

She continued, “Consequently, I never venture too far from my ceramic necked lover. He is pictured here with me, hiding in the wings and waiting to be cuddled. Anyone else here also expecting?”

Duchess Kate famously suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum in all three of her pregnancies too, resulting in her being hospitalised for long stretches at a time.

Other celebs who’ve experienced the awful side-effect include Amy Schumer, Amber Rose and Kelly Clarkson.

Thank you for all the kind messages and congratulations. Our family is incredibly excited to welcome a new member later this year. It’s our little rainbow in this confusing and uncertain time. I am delighted to be sporting my little bump and my kids are constantly stroking my belly and chatting to Peanut Butter (they have unanimously decided on this name).
