The squat is an extremely powerful and versatile exercise move which focuses on the thighs and bum area.
If you’ve ever done a squat during your workout routine, you’ll know just how powerful this move is!
But it’s also a move that plenty of people get wrong when they’re just starting out, or when they haven’t been taught the right way to do a squat.
So let’s take a quick look at what the right way is all about…
Six steps to getting that flawless squat
Stand up straight with your feet hip-width apart
Bend at the knees and lean back, keeping your knees over your toes
Make sure that your bum doesn’t drop below knee level
Your chest should be lifted with your shoulders back
Keep your back neutral and don’t arch it
Pull in your tummy (imagine pulling your bellybutton toward your spine)
If this all sounds a little complicated, don’t worry â?? that’s what the video below is for!
But, before we get there you might be wondering…
What makes squats so super?
Squats are great because you can do them anytime, anywhere.
Sometimes when it’s been a crazy day, and I know I need to get in some form of exercise but I only have a few minutes to spare, I stand in front of the TV and just do a couple of squats.
They’re powerful and easy to do â?? once you get the basic move right.
You could try doing the same if you’re pressed for time or just starting out. Aim to do about three sets with five to 15 repetitions in each set.
Bonus: If you want to work your arms at the same time, use a pair of weights to shed extra calories.
Let’s perfect that squat!
