Whoopi Goldberg learned something about Doja Cat that she did not expect

A video of the Say So hitmaker meeting the actress and talk show host surfaced online this week and quickly became a talking point in South Africa.

The meeting took place several months ago when Doja Cat appeared on The Late Night Show With Seth Meyers

The stars bumped into each other backstage and Doja Cat was thrilled to meet the Academy Award winner.

She told Whoopi that her father, Dumisani Dlamini, played Crocodile in the 1992 classic, Sarafina!.

Whoopi played one of the lead roles in the film.

“Get out of here!… [He is] a good man, really a good man,” a surprised Whoopi told the musician.

Doja Cat mentioned that she never met her father.

“Seeing and meeting you is the craziest thing… And I didn’t get to meet him but you did and damnit but that’s so cool.”

Many tweeps were shocked to find out that Doja Cat had not met her father after all these years

Some slammed the former Yizo Yizo star for being an absent father.

“SA men, your dad is alive established actor still and still has not made means to meet you?! (sic)” one woman wrote.

Like Whoopi, many tweeps had no idea that the famous singer had South African blood running through her veins.

“Love how @DojaCat knows that her dad’s name on Sarafina was Crocodile. She actually doesn’t seem to harbour any resentment towards Dumisani Dlamini but with that said, we should give her space & Stop claiming her as a Zulu South African, the whole thing is probably hard 4 her.”

It’s not the first time that Doja Cat has mentioned that she hasn’t met her father.

She has spoken about him in several interviews.

“My dad’s proud of me, he’s excited. he’s all over my Instagram, but what’s funny is I never met him,” she said in a 2019 interview shared on YouTube.

Doja Cat revealed in another interview that she tried to connect with him when she was 13 but nothing much happened.

She did, however, say that she was open to reconnecting with her father.
