Simphiwe Dana is trending on Twitter for all the wrong reasons

The singer has come under fire for basically calling South African men deadbeats.

“Truth is that South African men are the biggest gold diggers. They even dig the maintenance money,” she tweeted on Sunday.

She added in a separate tweet that “SA men are the bottom of the barrel”.

All hell broke loose on social media with scores of men and women calling her out for her “bitter” remarks.

#SimphiweDanaMustFall was trending at number one on Monday morning.

“So you dated + million South African men?” one Twitter user asked the star.

Another added: “Rather say the South African men you have dealt with or know of… generalising doesn’t get us anywhere as a country, we don’t need division especially from a public figure that a lot of us look up to.”

Some Twitter users reminded Simphiwe that once upon a time she was accused of having an affair with a married man and should be the last one blasting the male population.

Several tweeps claimed that Simphiwe and Ntsiki Mazwai – who is also known for trending on Twitter for making controversial statements – are in the same WhatsApp Group.

In a strange twist of fate, Ntsiki once put Simphiwe on blast for allegedly sleeping with a married man.

In 2015, Simphiwe admitted that she was in a relationship with a married man but had not been aware that she had been the “side chick”.

“I never knew I was the other woman until I found out that I was… I chose to be naïve. Because then I would have a fulfilling love,” she  told Khanyi Mbau on’s Katch it with Khanyi.

Some Twitter users came to Simphiwe’s defence, saying that her comments about SA men being gold diggers should only offend those who are guilty

“Simphiwe Dana clearly struck a nerve in many,” one user wrote.

Another user added: “Simphiwe Dana may have dated a married man but at least she didn’t RAPE no one like most men do. So, men using that against her it’s some kinda weakness, instead of #SimphiweDanaMustFall it should be #IdiocyMustFall because that’s what most men are suffering from on this App.”
