Britain’s Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have officially closed their office in the U.K
The couple marked its final day as senior royals on Tuesday, as part of their agreement with Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, they will no longer refer to themselves as ‘royal’ or use the word in their branding.
On 1 April, reporters noted that Harry and Meghan’s office had officially closed, sharing screenshots of the automatic reply from their email address, which reads: “Many thanks for your email. The office for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex has now closed.”
“It’s official…” wrote Daily Mail royal editor Rebecca English on Twitter alongside a screenshot of the response.
Before their departure, Harry and Meghan took to Instagram to confirm that they are walking away from their Sussex Royal website and Instagram profile as they prepare to become private citizens
In a statement, representatives for the pair explained, “Both the Instagram account and website will remain in existence online for the foreseeable future, although they will be inactive.”
The pair, who are parents to baby son Archie, announced plans to retreat from the royal spotlight and become financially independent in January, when Harry and Meghan also temporarily relocated from the U.K. to Vancouver Island, Canada.
They recently jetted to the former actress’s native Los Angeles, where they reportedly plan to set up a more permanent base.
