We should have seen it when denim on denim became a thing again
The mono texture trend is going to be huge this winter with fashionistas wearing one type of material from head to toe.
We’ve done monochrome; we’ve done denim on denim, but we’re not so sure about mono texture even though it will be all the rage this winter.
What is mono texture?
Monochrome is wearing the same colour from head to toe. This was a huge trend last year and still is.
Taking this trend just one step further is the mono texture trend where you wear clothes made of the same material from head to toe.
Denim on denim was just the tip of the iceberg. We are talking leather on leather, suede on suede, wool on wool, tweed on tweed…
This trend is definitely not a one size fits all, and isn’t everyone’s taste. Like most extreme trends, it’s either you love it or hate it.
How celebs are wearing mono texture
The word mono texture conjures images of those awful denim on denim on denim on denim matching outfits Justin Timberlake and Brittney Spears wore to the American Music Awards in 2001.
More fashionable examples are Rihanna’s black leather outfit at last year’s BET awards. Living on the absolute edge of fashion as always, Rihanna combined both monochrome and mono texture and slayed the look like a boss.
The leather on leather mono texture look is a popular one and when it’s worn by the Kardashians we just know it is going to be the look of the season, from red carpets to the clubs and the streets.
The best way to pull off the mono texture trend
Although many celebrities combine both the monochrome and mono texture trends, adding some diversity through colour can make the trend more palatable to some.
While flattering to some body shapes, a monochrome mono texture outfit can make you look bigger than you would like and isn’t flattering on everyone. Instead, mix it up by wearing different shades of the same material.
