But for many of us, working up a sweat is not just about the fitness and the weight loss, it’s also about the psychological benefits of exercise, and our daily dose of endorphins. Exercise helps keep the lockdown blues away, and has also been shown to boost the immune system.

While you’re on lockdown, don’t binge-eat all of your emergency supplies. Try to stick to your healthy diet, and work out in any way that’s possible.

So here are some home workout ideas to keep your fitness up and have you burning calories despite your isolation:

1.     Tabata

A ‘tabata’ is a Japanese workout that burns a lot of fat in a short amount of time. Four minutes, to be exact. The structure is simple, too.

Do 20 seconds of your chosen movement, then rest for 10 seconds.

Repeat this for eight rounds, and you’re done. The key is to go as hard as you can for every twenty second cycle. By the end you should be pretty spent, and you’ve set your body up to burn more calories for the rest of the day, too. The best exercises to choose include squats, pushups, and situps.
