We’re happy to report that we’ve found the perfect lipstick, and it’s time you did too…
Finding the right lipstick for you is pretty similar to finding the right pair of jeans… With jeans, you need to choose the shade of blue you want, decide on the right fit for your body, figure out which brand works for you, and hope that this all comes with a price tag that won’t leave you hungry for a month (although you might feel like that’s a good thing since nothing makes you feel more bloated than a day of shopping for jeans, right?!).
When it comes to finding the lipstick, you feel like you’ve got to choose between around 3000 shades of pink, decide whether you want a gloss, lipstick or lip stain and if you’d like this to be matte or glossy, and then figure out if the one you like is going to end up all over your teeth and collar, or if you’ll need to scrub it off with the force of nature.
Sound familiar? Well, I’m happy to announce that I’ve done the hard work for you, and after years of searching, I’ve finally found that easy-to-wear lip colour that I really love… enter Maybelline New York’s Super Stay Ink Crayons.
While I cannot deny that I am definitely still a die-hard MAC lipstick fan (Let Them Eat Cake! from the Love Me Lipstick range is my recent favourite), I am officially obsessed with Maybelline’s Crayons, and for good reason.
So, why are you so obsessed?
These matte lipsticks are made to mimic crayons, making the shape of them ideal for application. The sharp tip helps you get the colour exactly where you want it, and there’s an in-built sharpener to keep the shape – genius! From my experience, there’s zero smudging, and while I need to reapply after a meal, the colour is definitely long-lasting.
Let’s talk texture…
It’s rare to find a matte lipstick that doesn’t feel like it’s about to crack your lips open, but Maybelline got that so right here. It’s super creamy and easy to apply, and while it does dry to a matte finish, it certainly doesn’t make your lips feel in any way tight or suffocated – you know what I’m talking about, right? As far as matte textures go, this one is a dream.
Can you recommend a colour?
I haven’t sampled all the colours yet, but I can say that the range is filled with classic shades that will suit pretty much everyone. Stay Exceptional (no. 25) is the ideal everyday shade, a classic low-key nude-pink that I can’t get enough of, while Seek Adventure (no. 30) is that perfect pink that isn’t too bright but gives you a definite pop of colour.
Anything else we should know?
Yes! I don’t know about you, but I love a delicious smelling product, and this lip colour almost smells good enough to eat! Then there’s the fact that it costs around just R140, and it’s happy days all ‘round.
