If you’ve been wondering what happened to the Lay’s salt & vinegar flavoured crisps, you’re not alone…

A Lay’s fan tweeted the company last week, trying to figure out why she couldn’t find any salt & vinegar flavoured crisps on supermarket shelves. The devastating response from Lay’s hit South African Twitter users hard, with the company trending on social media for a few days.

Last week, @LailaManie tweeted “@LaysSouthAfrica Have you discontinued the Salt & Vinegar flavour. Can’t seem to find it anywhere for the last few weeks now.”

The company responded, “Hi @LailaManie, unfortunately, Lay’s Salt & Vinegar Flavour has been discontinued and will no longer be available in the market. We however invite you to try our new Lay’s Sweet and Smoky American BBQ Flavour. We do hope you enjoy our other flavours from our range too. :)”

According to an interview on Jacaranda FM this week, Lay’s Brand Manager, Wesley Chetty confirmed that the flavour had been discontinued due to its ‘poor performance’ in SA markets.

The news travelled fast, with Twitter users voicing their outrage. A salt & vinegar fan even started a petition on Change.org to bring back their favourite flavour…

Do you like Lay’s salt & vinegar flavour, or won’t you miss it?
