Do you have to eliminate all carbs to lose weight? Not necessarily.

Carbohydrates (popularly called carbs) are a good supply of energy for our body. Our body requires this energy to carry out its basic functioning activities.

Carbs also contain calories and if you take in more calories than you are burning, you can gain weight. So what should you do?

Simply ensure that you consume high quality, fibre-rich carbohydrate sources when it comes to foods. Throw out the refined, highly processed and junk foods and opt for more whole foods. For example, buy sweet potatoes which you could boil or grill instead of refined potato chips. You will be taking in more nutrients and fewer preservatives, additives and calories by consuming healthy foods.

Try making this little change to your diet. Substitute one unhealthy carbohydrate food with a healthy one. Over time, your diet will be much healthier than it was before and you may be able to see the effect on your weight too!
