Anele Mdoda had the time of her life at the 2020 Academy Awards

The TV and radio personality interviewed some of Hollywood’s biggest stars on the red carpet for M-Net’s Oscars special.

She looked at home chatting to the who’s who of America’s entertainment industry.

Before Sunday night’s ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Anele did a practice run to make sure she was ready for the big night.

She shared several behind-the-scenes pictures on Instagram of her Oscars diary.

Instead of praising the 947-presenter for securing yet another yet another Oscars red carpet gig, some people were more interested in the purple ‘China Town’ dress she wore on Saturday.

“But that dress is a big NO, are you attending matric dance or the Oscars?” one tweep asked.

Another added: “We looked everywhere for my grandmother’s curtains kanti.”

Anele clapped back at her critics.

“You are a forex trader. You may want to save your big NOs for your bank account,” she wrote.

Anele brushed off the hate and went on to have an amazing night at the Oscars.

Here’s a look at what she got up to…

A vision in Juan William Aria

Anele turned heads on the red carpet in a gorgeous designed by Juan William Aria. He is the man behind the glam looks for her December 2019 Glamour SA cover shoot.

Anele said her Oscars look helped her secure a lot of interviews on the red carpet.

“@j_william_aria thank you so much for getting this dress so right !!!! I was a hit on the carpet. So many people came to me because they first said ‘nice dress’,” she wrote on Instagram.

Chatting to Charlize Theron

Anele chatted to a fellow South African on the red carpet – Oscar winner Charlize Theron. The Benoni beauty looked gorgeous in a Dior gown.

“I had to get her. There was no other way. I would not be allowed back into the country if I had not,” Anele joked.

Singing for Janelle Monae

Anele is known for her bubbly personality, so it comes as no surprise that she would be brave enough to sing for Janelle Monáe.

“Guys… I sang to Janelle Monáe. I could not help it. She has a new movie out 24 April but hear it from her on @mnettv at 9PM. Channel 101,” she captioned a picture with the singer.

That time she saw Brad Pitt

Did Anele get to interview one of Hollywood’s most handsome stars? She shared a picture of the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ winner walking past her on the red carpet. Anele tried to get his attention but did he notice her?

“Brad, okay at least say hi to South Africa. Will turn or will he walk… all will be revealed at 21:00 on @mnettv #aneleattheoscars,” she teased.

Anele and actress Regina King were both rooting for Brad at the Oscars. Regina would later go on to present Brad with his first ever Academy award.

“She wanted Brad to win,” Anele revealed on Instagram.

Her favourite moment with James Corden

Anele also chatted to James Corden on the red carpet. She described her interview with The Late Late Show host as her “favourite moment’ from the night.

“He was not going to come to us until I shouted something and he came running what did I shout you may ask.”
