In honour of Google Maps turning 15 on 8 February, Google has put together a list of the ways Maps can save you time in your day to day life.
Check it out…
Use the Popular Times and Wait Times features to see when restaurants and other popular destinations are most crowded so you can know exactly when to avoid them.
2. Keep detours to a minimum by searching along your route:
If you’re on the road and realise you need to make a stop, use Google Maps to search for petrol stations, a butcher or other places along your drive so you can tackle your tasks without going too far out of your way.
3. Don’t get lost:
We all waste a lot of time when we don’t know right from left! If you’re exploring on foot, Live View can help you figure out which way to walk with arrows and directions clearly overlaid on the map.
4. Don’t get stuck driving in circles… understand how easy/hard it will be to park:
Google Maps can show you how difficult or easy it is to park in over 50 cities around the globe so you can know before you go.
After navigating somewhere, use Google Maps to save your parking location so you never have a “Dude where’s my car?” moment again.
6. Change “depart at / arrive by” time to find the best time to leave:
When in navigation mode, tap on the three dots at the top right hand corner of the app, and then on “Route options”. Then, tap on “Set depart or arrive time”.
7. Find places to eat on the fly:
With Google Maps, you can quickly find restaurants tailored to your tastes with Your Match.
Don’t know what to order? With the popular dishes feature, you can quickly find out what the must-try items on the menu are.
Whether you’re getting the family together for a holiday meal or activity, book restaurant reservations or tickets right from Google Maps to save time.
10. Share your location:
Share your real time location with loved ones to make it easier when meeting up.
11. Search for things nearby:
If you quickly want to find a place nearby based on proximity, search “near me” or “near [your destination]”, like “petrol stations near the airport” or “coffee near me”.
12. Add multiple stops:
When in navigation mode, tap on the three dots at the top right hand corner of the app, and then on “Route options”. Then, tap on “Add stop.” Google Maps will provide the fastest route between the stops.
Thanks to the Google Assistant, you can share your ETA with friends and family, reply to text messages, play music and podcasts…
13. Read Maps reviews even faster:
Trying to get a sense of what people are saying about that place you want to go to? Use the cloud of most common review topics to see what people are talking about the most and tap on any popular word to see the relevant reviews and photos.
14. Go hands-free with Google Assistant:
Thanks to the Google Assistant, you can share your ETA with friends and family, reply to text messages, play music and podcasts, search for places along your route, add a new stop and auto-punctuate your message — all with just your voice. Just say “Hey Google, take me home,” to open Google Maps and get help from your Assistant on your journey.
15. Find hidden gems:
If you’re traveling to a new city, use the Explore tab find the best restaurants, sights and events happening in the area.
