The World Health Organisation recommends that adults eat less than 5 grams of salt a day. Many people tend to go well over this amount. If you are one of them, be careful. You could increase your risk of developing hypertension.

Do you often eat canned foods?

Do you consume canned foods on a regular basis? If you do then be aware that many canned foods contain salt – also known as sodium.

Avoid adding additional amounts of salt to your dish when preparing these foods. Alternatively, you could rinse the canned food (if it is possible) before preparing your meal. This can help wash out some of the salt content.
