Liquid eyeshadow isn’t the first thing that comes to mind when we’re talking eye makeup, right? But if you slightly adapt the way you’re used to working with eyeshadow, it can become your new best friend in no time…

It’s surprisingly easy to work with, and once you get the hang of it you’ll have all-day eyeshadow with the added benefit of no smudging or product fallout.

To ensure your eyelid area is smooth, uniform and has the right texture eye makeup to adhere to; apply a thin layer of eyeshadow primer. Close your eyes so it can dry completely without collecting in the creases.

Most liquid eyeshadows come with some version of a sponge or brush applicator. These work well to dab a bit of product onto your lid, but that’s where it ends. Don’t attempt to blend the eyeshadow with this applicator, you’ll end up with streaks and creases.

Light layers

One of the biggest mistakes people make with liquid eyeshadow is packing too much on at a time. Thick blobs of product will pill and crease, as it won’t dry properly.

To build intensity, build light layers on top of each other, allowing them to dry in between. You can blend it with brushes or with your fingertips

Fingertip blending

If you’re a no-frills girl, apply a couple of dabs of liquid eyeshadow with the applicator and then dab with your ring finger to blend. To build intensity, add thin layers at a time until you’ve reached the depth or colour you’re aiming for.

Brush blending

Dab some eyeshadow onto your lid as per the above method, or use a dense flat tipped brush to lightly pack some product onto your lids. Use a fluffy brush to blend the edges, and repeat in the areas you’d like to intensify.
