All for the sake of charity… Vernon Kruger has been causing a sensation in Dulstroom for the last two months by living in a barrel, perched 25 metres above the ground

His plan was to break his own Guinness World Record (which he set 23 years ago, in 1997), and spend over 67 days crammed into the tiny wooden space. On Monday this week, he broke the record to much jubilation, but Kruger has not yet given up. He’s STILL in his barrel!

Why is he doing this?

According to his Facebook page, ‘Up The Pole In Dullstroom’ “Vernon is doing this for a good cause, All donations made and funds raised are being given to the Epilepsy South Africa Centre in Dullstroom and the SAVF Belfast Children’s Home. Both of these are accredited non-profit organisations that do good work for the community and the people in their care. They are open throughout the year and are in need of this support to look after those in their care by providing food, shelter and other necessities.”

He’s raising funds for the charities through Back A Buddy, and aims to raise at least R100 000 for the two charities.
