In a study of rats, scientists have found that caffeine limited weight gain and cholesterol production, despite a diet high in fat and sugar.

In the study, rats consumed the human equivalent of four cups of coffee and gained 16 percent less weight and accumulated 22 percent less body fat than rats that didn’t consume caffeine.

According to the study, this means that caffeine may reduce the storage of lipids in fat cells which helps limit weight gain.
