Miss Universe Zozibini Tuzni’s high-top fade has inspired scores of women across the globe

The Eastern Cape beauty’s natural hair has been getting a lot of attention since her crowning.

Zozibini defended her natural hair in the months leading up to the pageant.

One Twitter user said that the 26-year-old looked like a boy and stood no chance of winning Miss Universe.

“Zozibini will not win Miss Universe. That girl is ugly she looks like a boy. She didn’t even deserve to win Miss South Africa. Stop fooling yourselves,” the tweep wrote.

A few weeks later, Zozi – who continued to rock her natural hair – was crowned the fairest in the universe.

One Twitter user joked that salons should get ready for an influx of women requesting the Zozi look.

“As we speak, some South African salons are ready to hang Zozi’s pictures next to Ludacris.”

Zozibini is not the only local star embracing her natural hair.

Here’s a look at five other stars with similar hairdos…

Luthando ‘LootLove’ Shosha is known to rock many bold looks including thigh-length faux dreads, but there was once a time when her short “boy-cut” hair was her trademark look.

Loot was one of the first to celebrate Zozi’s Miss Universe win and of course had to mention her natural hair.

“You soared higher! You took up space! You lead! You owned! I love how the crowns sit on your high top fade @zozitunzi!!” LootLove.

Here’s a picture of LootLove rocking her top fade hairdo back in 2018.

Nandi Madida

Singer and fashion designer Nandi Madida has been rocking her short, natural hair for years now.

During an interview on Real Goboza in August, Nandi revealed that going natural was a conscious decision. She wanted to inspire women to be comfortable in their own skin and not feel pressure to live up to certain beauty standards.

“There are a lot of people who wear wigs… can play with your look, but as long as you love who you are.”

Nandi added that she chatted to Zozibini after her Miss South Africa win to congratulate her on her accomplishment.

“She said something along the lines like, ‘because you ran we now can walk this path’ and was like ‘wow, thank you’. To know that I have inspired someone like herself and many others is extremely humbling,” she said.

Rosette Mogomotsi

Model Rosette Mogomotsi got the big chop in September.

“She’s done! Been dreading shaving my hair for the longest time. Figured I’ll wait for the right time and today was perfect!” she wrote on Instagram. Rosette has been proudly rocking her short hair ever since.
