Authentic and delicious Neapolitan-style pizza has arrived in Jozi and is now available at the newly opened Dolci Bar & Pizzeria.
The aim is to keep it simple but with something to suit every taste. If you’re looking for an authentic pizzeria (that you probably won’t find anywhere else in Jozi) that serves delicious cocktails, then O’ver is for you.
In local Neapolitan dialect “O’ver” is used to refer to a person, place or thing as legitimate, true, the real deal.
Authentic and delicious Neapolitan-style pizza with a South African twist
O’ver offers selection of pizzas from a traditional mozzarella, basil and tomato to more gourmet ones like a smoked mozzarella, crisp lamb bacon, caramelised onion and berry balsamic reduction pizza. Prices start at R110.
- The dough is naturally leavened using stoneground flour for 24 to 48 hours. The result is an airy, easily digestible pizza that cooks in 90 seconds. It was insane and impressive just how quickly our pizza arrived after ordering.
- Toppings are all made in-house using mainly local ingredients. The tomatoes and mozzarella are imported from Italy to give that Neapolitan pizza taste.
O’ver (ricotta mousse, smoked salmon, lemon zest and fresh fior di latte, R140): A perfectly thin base, delicious dough and not overloaded with cheese. While I really love cheese, the pizza had just enough and the other toppings really shone through. I loved the combination of salmon, ricotta and lemon zest. I ate half and had the rest for lunch the next day, and it was still delicious.
The Calzone was quite big and equally delicious. The simple flavours of great ingredients made this a real treat.
Other pizzas include Antica Margherita (fior di latte mozzarella, Italian tomatoes and basil, R110), Diavola Piccante (beef salami with hot sauce R120) and the Contadina (olives, mushrooms, red pepper and ricotta, R120). Gourmet signatures include the Francese (smoked mozzarella, crisp lamb bacon, caramelised onion and berry balsamic reduction, R140)
And if you’re looking for something else, bar snacks – including fried chicken wings, pork ribs, crispy cauliflower florets and crispy chicken – are also available, as well as starters from next door’s Dolci Café.
There is also a range of delicious and instaworthy cocktails from Prosecco Negroni to Strawberry Mojito. I was very impressed with the cocktails and the decor added a nice touch. I had the Prosecco Negroni and my guest had Liquid Blue. You can take a look at the Dolci Cocktail List. Cocktails start at R65.
We went on a Sunday afternoon (highly recommended to ease you into the week) and you could either sit outside, inside or by the bar. This would be the perfect spot for after-work drinks during the week or a great place to have lunch or dinner over the weekend.
If you’re looking for authentic pizza with a thin crust, good quality ingredients that stand out and flavour combinations that will make you say Mmmm, then definitely give O’ver at Dolci Cafe a try. The cocktails are also tasty and well priced.
