With the holiday season in full swing, you’re probably thinking about entertaining. Having friends over can be a wonderful way to celebrate – but does often push our parking arrangements to the limit…

With this in mind, it’s a good idea to check that both your garage – and gate sensors are working as you expect them too – before the holidays are marred by a costly accident.

Automatic garage doors and most automatic gates should always have an ‘auto-reverse’ sensor installed. This means that when an obstruction is detected in the door or gate’s path, it immediately halts and withdraws.

Testing your gate is simple – stand in the path of the closing gate, and monitor that it reverses direction when triggered.

You can do similarly with garage doors, which can be particularly dangerous to children if the sensor is malfunctioning.

Typically you will need a quick visit from an expert to recalibrate the sensor if you discover something is off, but the peace of mind will be well worth it.
