The brutal murder of Eastern Cape traditional healer Anele Hoyana has left South Africans shocked and angry

Farmer Fritz ‘Majeke’ Joubert beat Anele to death with his fists and the butt of a rifle.

According to DispatchLIVE, the men knew each other. Anele and his family were temporarily living on Fritz’s Geluksdal farm near Gonubie, and Anele was helping Fritz train to become a sangoma.

The 45-year-old farmer shared two videos on social media in which he claimed he was the “chosen one” and called Anele “Satan”.

Fritz, who also held Anele’s girlfriend and son hostage, was killed by police during a confrontation after the attack.

Pearl Thusi said she was heartbroken after watching the videos Fritz had shared online.

“#RIPANELE Those videos broke my heart. I can only imagine what his family is going through. The South African Justice system needs to find stronger measures to condemn acts of Racism. As these weeds keep sprouting, they need to be dug, pulled out by the roots and burnt,” she tweeted.

Nina Hastie slammed those who cited mental illness to explain Fritz’s actions.

“Rest In Peace Anele Hoyana. I am revolted by this flagrant misrepresentation of a MURDERER, as a “victim” of mental illness. Part of privilege is access to health care – mental health care & support. There is zero support for mental illness for 90% of the S African population,” she wrote.

Ntsiki Mazwai questioned why people were quick to dismiss the racist element of the attack.

“If it wasn’t racial how come he kept referring to anele as Satan and himself as God. Was it then a Christian cult killing?” she asked.

Dineo Moeketsi wanted to know who recorded some of the videos taken during the incident.

“Where is the person recording the #AneleHoyana murder? Are they not an accessory? Surely they must get to the root of all this evil! How many that were around Fritz are exactly like him?! Uproot the whole damn thing.”
