Bathroom fans are a blessing, especially in a smaller bathroom where damp can quickly get overwhelming…

You shouldn’t just ‘set it and forget it’, however! Just like every other home appliance, these fans need care and maintenance for a long life and safe usage.

Keep an eye on the vent or grille installed in the roof. If this starts to get grubby and dusty, it’s time to show the fan some love.

Dust not only makes the unit run less efficiently, but it can be a fire hazard too

Use a compressed air can, or a vacuum, to clean out the vents and banish that dust. While you’re there, give the fan a manual turn, and listen carefully – if you hear squeaky bearings, they need to be attended to urgently.

With a little care and attention, your bathroom fan will continue to serve you for years to come.
