Charlize Theron hosted a fundraiser in New York this week and some of her South African peeps were there to support her

David Kau, DJ Tira and former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters were pictured at the Charlize Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) fundraise.

Amy Schumer and Drew Barrymore also made an appearance.

“I admire this woman so much! @charlizeafrica founded @ctaop to fight HIV in Africa and I was blown away to learn more about her efforts to empower youth to ultimately live healthier lives,” Drew wrote on Instagram.

According to the CTAOP website, Charlize’s charity “invests in African youth and their ability to keep themselves safe from HIV/AIDS”

The Academy-award winning actress setup the organisation in 2007, with SA remaining its primary area of focus.

Demi-Leigh gave Charlize a shout out on Instagram for all the good work she is doing for her home country

“Such a great evening supporting the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Programme that benefits so many women back home in South Africa. Thank you for having me,” she wrote on Instagram.

DJ Tira was thrilled to be hanging out with “SA’s finest” at the event. He snapped pictures with Charlize, former president Kgalema Motlanthe and Drew Barrymore.

David Kau also posed for pictures with some of the celebrity guests. He was particularly excited to meet fellow comedian Nora ‘Awkwafina’ Lum, who is known for her roles in Crazy Rich Asians and Oceans 8.

“It was soo cool to meet you. You’re hilarious,” he wrote.

Charlize thanked her A-list guests for coming out to support her.

“So much love for these amazing ladies who came out to support @ctaop last night at our annual fundraiser. And special thank you to @awkwafina for absolutely killing it as our emcee. Girl, I am truly obsessed with you and if you think I’m kidding when I say I’m moving in, just wait till I show up at your door next Tuesday,” she captioned  a picture with Awkwafina and Drew.

Scores of celebrities have supported the Long Shot star’s charity in the past.

Trevor Noah, Chelsea Handler and Mary McCormak travelled to South Africa in 2017 to help CTAOP celebrate its 10-year anniversary.

The trio featured in a mini-documentary highlighting the work that the charity does.
