The story behind Hector Mkansi and Nonhlanhla Soldaat’s proposal is sweeter than we imagined!
The couple became household names after a video of Hector proposing at a KFC outlet in Johannesburg went viral. Hector gets down on one knee in mid-meal, while onlookers cheer him on.
While some slammed him for his “classless” proposal, scores of South Africans came together to help sponsor the couple’s wedding.
Celebrities, including DJ Black Coffee, K Naomi, Sindisiwe van Zyl, Blue Mbombo, Zakes Bantwini and Amanda Black joined big brands in pledging to assist the couple.
All from this heartwarming video!

Nonhlanhla and Hector visited SABC Morning Live this week to talk about how they feel about all the support they have received from South Africans
Hector joked that he chose KFC because Nonhlanhla loves food, especially KFC, and added that KFC staff helped him with the proposal by putting the ring in a ‘Boxmaster’ meal box.
Nonhlanhla said she did not expect the proposal and was surprised when everyone at the branch started singing and congratulating them.
The couple added that they did not know the proposal had gone viral on Twitter as they are only on Facebook, and a relative called to tell them they were trending on Twitter.
The couple, who conducted the entire interview in isiZulu, added that they are overwhelmed with gratitude for the positive feedback they have received from the public.
They have not set a wedding date for their sponsored wedding because Nonhlanhla is still busy with exams.
Nonhlanhla and Hector are glad they will be able to have the wedding of their dreams.

Social media users were thrilled to see the couple telling their amazing story
“This is wonderful and amazing. It is good for once that the nation celebrate with them the love they shared with us because many at times we hear a lot about bad love stories. Let’s hear more of such good things. If you are negative I will block you,” one Twitter user wrote.
