One of the main reasons we eat is to provide our bodies with a good, steady energy supply…

This is especially important when you’re on a diet, as you will be eating fewer calories, so the ones you do eat need to count.

Here are the best foods to eat for more energy, and the ones to avoid because they may cause you to feel drowsy, lack energy, and won’t contribute towards effective weight loss over time.

Eat: Wholegrains

Wholegrains are unrefined carbohydrate foods, like wholegrain bread, barley, brown rice, and oats. These carbs are digested more slowly due to their higher fibre content, making the energy delivery a little slower, which is good because that means you can use more of the energy they will give you.

Avoid: Pasta (and other simple carbs)

Foods like pasta, white bread, sweets, donuts and cake are all very high in energy, but the energy they deliver is not very useful, because it all gets delivered at once. This means that unless you’re running a marathon or something similar, you’ll end up storing most of these calories.
