Hands up if you assumed that a low-carb diet and a keto diet is the same thing? It’s a common misconception…
Since they are both low in carbohydrates, many people think that a keto diet and low-carb diet is the same thing. However, there are significant differences between the two diets.
A keto (ketogenic) diet is a low carb, high-fat diet with the goal to reach and maintain what’s known as nutritional ketosis.
In this diet, fat is the main source of calories.
A low-carb diet limits carbohydrates while increasing protein, fat and vegetable consumption.
In this diet, protein is the main source of calories.
A keto diet typically allows 50 grams of carbs while a low-carb diet allows 75 – 150 grams of carbs a day. On a keto diet, protein makes up only 20% of the daily calorie intake while a low-carb diet is high in protein.
