Believe it or not, the best time to destress is often during lunchtime. Especially if your morning has been chaotic and youâ??re counting down the minutes till the end of the day.

Itâ??s the â??silly seasonâ? and with deadlines galore, tempers flaring and last minute things to finish off before the Christmas break, stress is rearing its ugly head just about everywhere.

Stress is not something to play around with

It can impact your mental and physical health, leading to depression, insomnia, stomach pains and loss of sexual drive among other things. Itâ??s therefore crucial that you take care of yourself â?? every single day, even when you feel like you want to climb the walls or run away. A great time to do this is in the middle of your day, over lunchtime.

Here are a few lunchtime destress ideas you can try:

1. Enjoy a cup of chamomile tea. Chamomile tea has natural compounds which help ease stress.

2. Take a walk around the block. If you can walk to a nearby park (or somewhere in nature) during your lunch break, even better. Exercise is a great form of stress release as it causes feel-good endorphins to release in the body, thereby making you feel happier and more positive for the rest of the day.

3. Do 15 minutes of yoga. Try this one move to feel calmer: lie on your back and relax with your arms at your sides and breathe in and out slowly. This move is called the â??Savasanaâ? and is a brilliant way to help you release some of the tension in your body.

4. Eat a healthy lunch. Avocados, salmon, almonds and spinach have been shown to lower blood pressure. Enjoy one of these foods, or combine them together for a super scrumptious salad packed full of tasty nutrients!
