American radio legend Charlamagne tha God is slowly but surely falling in love with South Africa and we saw this when he paid his respects to Bonang Matheba this week

We’ve come a long way from the days when Charlamagne offended South Africans by describing Cassper Nyovest, on radio, as “some rapper from Africa”. The Power 105.1 FM presenter was put in his place at the time and to his great credit, he has taken the initiative to educate himself about South Africa since the gaffe.

Now, he’s not only well-versed on Mzansi celeb culture but he’s even promoting some of our stars on air!

This week the author and broadcast veteran was on-air describing the success of a number of South African celebrities and he quipped that a lot of them look as if they are doing better than American stars (and he’s not wrong!)

When the time came to give an example, he made a point of advising his listeners to visit Bonang Matheba’s Instagram page, before he proclaimed that she was “living her best life”.

Although a number of South Africans found the pronunciation of her name quite funny (it sounded more like ‘Boneng’), the shout-out was definitely well-received by everybody in Mzansi.

It’s not the first time that Charlamagne has paid his respects to Bonang’s hustle

Back in December 2018, the radio presenter was in South Africa for the blockbuster Global Citizen concert and when he met Bonang, he took a moment to give her a shout-out on Instagram where he said, “Met this Queen @bonang_m #GlobalCitizenfestivalsa yesterday. She does Radio, TV, all types of hustles. Her country LOVES her!!”
