National Geographic journalist Dan Buettner spent years studying the lifestyle and habits of centenarians around the world.

What Buettner found is that natural daily movement and having a sense of life purpose to be key to longevity.

He also found that communities with more centenarians tended to eat a plant-based diet of their own local produce, often on the same day it was picked. They only ate until they were 80% full.

Longevity was also linked to being close to family, both emotionally and geographically.
