General check-ups

Today’s ‘little thing’ could be considered more of a ‘big thing’ in some ways. It’s a thing we should all do every six months or so, but few of us do it at all.

It’s quick, painless, relatively cheap, reasonably easy, and doesn’t really have any downside. What it can get you is a giant amount of peace-of-mind and access to information regarding your current state of health.

I am, of course, talking about general physical check-ups.

Going to your GP for a physical is a really great way to check that you’re healthy, fit and strong. You’ll walk out the door with a real sense of what’s good, and what needs work in your current state of health, and if there’s any potential danger, you’ll have caught it early.

It’s a good time to bring up that back ache that has been niggling you for a while. Or that new mole you saw on your arm, or your lack of sleep… Those things you generally ignore until they get really serious. Rather sort the issue out NOW before it becomes something more than just a niggle.

What does this have to do with weight loss?

Knowing that your body is working in tip-top shape, or making small adjustments here and there can ensure that your body is functioning optimally. This means that it will be using resources optimally, and you’ll be gaining muscle and losing fat where and when you should.

Having a check-up can help identify any potential issues that could be hindering your progress.

Your GP can also give you tips on how to continue in good health as you age (find a GP who agrees with your exercise pursuits if you’re lifting weights), and you’ll get a real understanding of how your healthy eating and exercising is keeping you younger than your actual age.

This is also a good time to ask any questions you may have had regarding your medical condition. You may also find out that your diet needs to change, in which case your doctor can recommend someone for you to talk to about this.

All in all, going for a check-up twice annually is a great idea, and it can really save you a lot of headaches in the long run.
